Should You Be a Generalist or a Specialist?

Should you be a generalist or a specialist consultant?

Answer below 👇

From what I’ve seen so far, specialists make the most money, work less, are more recognized and create the most impact (check out the video below for an analogy using the medical profession 📺).

To get your positioning right as a specialist, you have to be very clear about these three things:

1. WHAT – what specific expertise are you going to offer your market?

2. WHO – who is your ideal client organization and buyer?

3. HOW – how will you solve your clients’ problems and bring them results?

The more clarity you have on the above, the easier it will be to attract the right types of prospects.

But what if you don’t know what to specialize in?

If that’s you, it’s not a reason to stress. It’s perfectly okay to start off being a generalist, start generating income, understanding market needs and then deciding to specialize.

It’s how I (and several other consultants I know) built my business as well.
