Use this ChatGPT Deep Research prompt to identify buying signals from consulting buyers 👇
In yesterday’s post I wrote about identifying buying signals and triggers to generate better leads. I said that if you’re targeting small and mi-sized firms, it’s hard to identify buying signals in the public domain as performance-related issues don’t show up in search results.
But someone challenged me to do a ChatGPT Deep Research search to identify buying signals in SMBs, so I tried it.
I’m pleasantly surprised with the results I got, so I’m sharing my process below.
This is not a magic pill, but it’s a great start to help you identify buying signals in your market. You don’t want to skip the manual steps I talked about in yesterday’s post (link in comments).
Here’s the ChatGPT prompt (don’t forget to hit the Deep Research button – Plus/Pro users):
🌟 [CHATGPT DEEP RESEARCH PROMPT] “Act as a research assistant helping a consultant identify potential buyers for [insert consulting service, e.g., supply chain optimization]. Search public sources like recent news, press releases, LinkedIn posts, job postings and blog posts to identify companies likely experiencing the following buying signal/s: [INSERT BUYING SIGNAL/s].
*Return a list of 5–10 companies, along with:
The evidence or trigger (quote, article, or event)
Why this may indicate need for [insert service]
Who (job title) might be the likely buyer or influencer”*
Focus on U.S./Canada-based mid-market companies (100–1000 employees) in [insert industry if relevant]. Prioritize events within the last 30 days.” 🌟
🧩 Choose appropriate buying signals to plug in to your prompt:
– New executive hire
– Layoffs or restructuring
– New funding or M&A
– Public customer complaints
– Digital transformation announcements
– Expansion into a new region
– Regulatory changes
– Job posting spikes
– Cost-cutting mandates
– Board/investor pressure
✍ Try it and let me know if it helped?
