Here’s how I use Claude to keep track of market information so I never have a problem finding better clients and creating offers that work.
I run a weekly account scan through Claude that the vast majority of consultants I know skip entirely.
It checks my target accounts for buying triggers. Leadership changes, funding events, expansions. Sources and dates attached, so I know it’s real before I act on it.
That’s one piece of a broader change in how I use Claude. Growth-led consultants keep customer understanding current instead of relying on what they learned months ago. Delivery-led consultants skip that because the research eats into their delivery time.
Here’s how I use AI to keep that research going without burning my week on it (see the comments for more on how I set these up):
👉 1. Account research. I do this through Claude Cowork. It burns through slightly more tokens than a normal chat (if you have a large list), but the spreadsheet runs every week without me touching it. Worth the slightly extra cost.
👉 2. Prospect call mining. I keep a spreadsheet of the problems, symptoms, and needs I hear on client calls. I update it periodically and use Claude to spot patterns across it, so my understanding on what the market actually needs isn’t based on memory.
👉 3. Industry tracking. A project fed by Google Alerts and RSS feeds on consulting, business and AI. My fast read on what’s shifting before I write about it.
👉 4. Podcast mining. Especially video podcasts. There are too many good ideas in a 90-minute episode to note them all myself. I upload the transcript and get a clean list of what resonated. Then I add my own angle and build new content from it.
👉 5. App connections. Asana, Dropbox, Google Calendar, Zoom are wired in, so the research above turns into action instead of sitting in a tab.
I ended up moving from ChatGPT to Claude four months ago for most of my work. At that time Claude was ahead on solutions like Cowork, connectors and skills. ChatGPT has caught up I belive but I simply haven’t made the move back since a lot my work is already in Claude.
There is a learning curve to go through as you do this (and most other things with AI), but I know this: even though these activities take some time to set up and learn, the customer research that used to often get skipped isn’t getting skipped anymore.
