How to identify your Top Priorities as a consulting founder for 2025 👇

As consultants, we’re always juggling multiple priorities. But not everything deserves our immediate attention. So how do you figure out the two or three things that will truly move the needle for your business this year?

Here’s a simple yet powerful exercise to help you focus:

🟢 Step 1: Rate Your Business

Ask yourself this question:

“On a scale of 1 to 10, how would I rate my consulting business as a high-growth business?”

Take a moment to be honest. Are you at a 6? A 7? An 8?

🟢 Step 2: Ask, “Why Not a 10?”

Now, reflect:

What’s holding you back from rating your business a perfect 10?

Write down your reasons. These could be anything. You might uncover challenges like:

🚩 Your solution or service offering isn’t resonating. Are prospects struggling to see the value in what you provide?

🚩 You don’t have enough leads. Is your pipeline inconsistent or too dependent on a few sources?

🚩 You’re unsure who your ideal client is. Are you casting too wide a net or targeting the wrong market?

🚩 Your sales conversion is low. Are you missing opportunities to close deals with qualified prospects?

🟢 Step 3: Turn Problems into Priorities

The reasons you list are your biggest growth levers. These are the two or three buckets you need to focus on. Prioritize fixing these issues before taking on new initiatives.

For example:

If you lack a strong service offering, spend time refining and testing it.

If you’re struggling with leads, double down on building a repeatable lead generation system.

If sales conversion is weak, work on your discovery calls or sales process.

🟢 Step 4: Commit to Action

Now that you’ve identified your priorities, it’s time to take action. Don’t spread yourself thin trying to fix everything at once. Focus deeply on one or two areas, and track your progress.
